On May 15th, Craig and I headed to the Overture Center in Madison to see His Holiness the Dalai Lama speak as part of the Change your Mind, Change the World: Conversations on Science, Happiness and Well-being conference.
He spoke with Dr. Richard Davidson, Matthieu Ricard, Dr. Jonathan Patz, and Arianna Huffington moderated the panel.
In the end, the Dalai Lama's main message was this: why can't we simply have peace in this world? Stop the wars and the fighting. Besides wars, I thought that message could apply to every day life as well.
In fact, I double checked the transcripts and he said, "peace must start from individual's inner peace."
I was so happy to see a leader I respect so much in person. I just wish our seats had been closer!
Local readers--Wisconsin Public Television is airing a taping of the conversations tonight, Tuesday, July 9th at 9 p.m. CST. After it airs tonight, PBS will also have it available on their website.
I became more familiar with the Dalai Lama when his book "Ethics for the New Millennium" was assigned in a grad school ethics class and I loved the book!
ReplyDeleteI heard really great things about the event!
ReplyDeleteAs a society we really need to think more about messages like this...
